, the “Live Entertainment Capitol” and the home for thousands of military
reunions has announced it will now be dedicating the third week of May each year
to honor and acknowledge the women who have and are serving in our armed services.
On
November 8, 2004 , Branson Mayor Lou Schaefer declared the third week
of May “Women Veteran Week” He was attending a luncheon honoring the women
who have so proudly served this country.
Also in attendance were women veterans representing the past 60 years, from
World War II the present day Iraq War).
This yearly event will encourage women veterans to bring their reunions and
families here to Branson and enjoy the numerous attractions Branson has to
offer. Pristine lakes, fishing,
golfing, shopping, restaurants, over 100 live shows and our beautiful hotels
with large and small hospitality rooms to offer the veterans for gathering.

Rose Petal Ceremony Slated
for November
The Branson Veterans
Task Force is privileged to celebrate and honor
women veterans during Veterans Homecoming Week,
November 5th - 11th 2009.
We invite all women
veterans and those that support them to attend the
Rose Petal Ceremony to be held at date, time and
location TBD.
The Rose
Petal Ceremony is a moving tribute acknowledging
women from each
branch of service who have served and a special way to honor the women who have
given their lives for
their country. At this two bell ceremony rose petals will be handed out to
attending women veterans and guests. The
public will then be invited to drop petals in the
fountain for others who have sacrificed their lives
in defense of our nation.
Directly
following the ceremony, participants are invited to
a luncheon at the Keeter Center.

She Believes...
excerpts from interview by Linda Ward.
Sherrie Schnapp has served on the Branson Veterans
Task Force Board of Directors for close to 6 years. As
Chairman of the Education Committee, she has headed
several school contests, as well as being the spearhead
for the America - My Voice Counts! Quiz Bowl in which
Jr. ROTC students from around the area participated.
Sherrie is also a member of the WVC, Women Veterans
Committee.
Her service story begins during the 1920's .... Sherrie
ended up enlisting on her 21st birthday.
Medical Basic at Fort Sam Houston followed Basic, and
then 1 1/2 years at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in
Denver, CO finished her training as a Clinical
Specialist. Stints at Ft. Riley, KS Ft Leonard Wood, MO
and Ft Lewis, WA were all part of Sherrie's experience. Her overseas assignment Tripler Medical Center in Hawaii
for three years. As Sherrie says "It was a tough
assignment but someone had to do it." From her grin of
